Fixing Grandpa's Old Greasy Spoon
After many years of running a diner, the old Arthur Danford decided that it was about time that he decided to really live life and travel the globe. He wanted to see what the world had to offer, but the grandfather just couldn't leave his cafe unattended in his absence. So, Arthur turns to his granddaughter to keep everything up and running while he trots around the world.
This is the situation presented to the inexperienced Amelie as she takes over the reigns of her grandpa's greasy spoon on the corner. She hadn't been there in ages, so she wasn't really sure what to expect. As it turns out, the modest restaurant had seen brighter days and wasn't in the best of condition. Faced with this challenge, Amelie must not only maintain the eatery; she must bring it up to the next level and restore it to its former glory!
Managing the Chef Stations
If you are familiar with other similar time-management games, you'll find yourself right at home with Amelie's Cafe. As the customers slowly trickle in through the doors, you must make sure that they are properly addressed and their orders must be delivered in a timely manner. The quick-paced action is well-mated with the sharp graphics and fresh animations.
Unlike some other diner-style casual games, however, there is more than just one place to get your food! Each chef station can only produce a single menu items and each of these stations is helmed by a single chef. Your task is to manage their workload and ensure that their stations remain clean! Next to each station is a small meter indicating the current level of cleanliness. When you see that it falls into the yellow or red, you must rush over, grab a brush, and clean up the station! A dirty station will not produce any food at all!
The general process for most customers is as follows. You first present them with a menu and take their order. From there, you go to the appropriate chef station to request and pick up the required dishes. After that, you deliver the order to the customer and collect the money. Sounds simple, right? Try thinking that when you have half a dozen impatient customers and four dirty workstations!
What's That on the Bottom?
You may notice an assortment of icons at the bottom of the screen. This is how you achieve your bonus points! As you complete each of the various tasks, each of them will be represented by an icon. String together three identical tasks, like delivering the order, and you earn the bonus. Even if you don't perform three identical tasks in consecutive order, you can click on the mis-matching icon to remove them from the list. This alleviates a little bit of pressure, but it also presents another area that demands your focus. It's all about multi-tasking!
The lunch rush can be quite the crazy experience, but if you're prepared to handle the personalities in the kitchen, maintain the various chef workstations so that they remain ready to tackle all orders, and you do it all with a smile on your face, you'll survive... and have a great time along the way!
