I Want to be a Chocolatier
I didn't even know a chocolatier was a real thing! It turns out they do exist and they make for fantastic video games! In this tasty game, you work for the Baumeister Confections company and you make - you guessed it - chocolate treats! This is much more than your average puzzle game, however. The gameplay can get so incredibly deep, it's more like a candy making sim!
It's the "roaring 20s" but unfortunately, Baumeister Confections isn't exactly "roaring." The company has seen better days, to be sure. In attempt to get back on their feet, they've hired a new employee: you. Your job is to make chocolates for the company - be a chocolatier - and get its business back to booming.
Helping you through your first day will be Alexandra Tangye, daughter of the company's owner. You'll be working out of San Francisco at first, making candies at Brickhouse Square, a factory run by Ilya Bajanov. Ilya might be a little difficult to work with at first, but he'll come around after he sees what you're capable of.
After you make your first batch of chocolates, you can sell them to Helen McMurtry over at San Francisco Chocolates. She always pays a good price.
The reason I've gone into such detail about the game's beginning is to show you how much care went into Chocolatier 2's production. While the actual chocolate making plays out like a puzzler, this is also a business sim game. The characters are well written and the gameplay is surprisingly deep. You're not just a chocolatier; you're practically an entrepreneur! You may start out as a lackey for Baumeister Confections, but soon enough you'll start to carve a name for yourself!
This Is How We Make Chocolate
Your first batch of confections will be the easiest. Each candy requires one part cocoa bean and one part sugar. The cocoa beans are some of the world's finest, which you'll have to take a train all the way down to San Jose, Costa Rica to purchase! To make a candy, simply shoot one cocoa bean and one bit of sugar into the moving wheels. If you run out of empty wheel, Ilya will fill them up again, so don't worry! The better you do, the faster the wheels will move. If you waste an ingredient, either by shooting at a wheel that doesn't need it or by missing entirely, Ilya will slow the entire process down. The slower everything moves, the easier it is, but you can't make as many cases!
Just the Tip of the Iceberg
It would be nearly impossible to explain everything the game offers. It's incredibly vast, so much so that there's still stuff I haven't gotten the hang of, despite playing it extensively. It's an incredible simulation game and features some of the most challenging puzzle gameplay I've experienced. This is a top notch game, no doubt about it. Anybody who ever wanted to try their hand at running a business should check out Chocolatier 2 right away!
