Intergalactic Intensity
Travel to far away galaxies and battle evil robot bugs in this fast-paced arcade adventure. There isn't a time limit, per se, but you'll be sitting at the edge of your seat, battling your way through over 500 levels of intense action, frantically trying to plan out your next move. The action is heart-pounding, the 3D-rendered graphics are gorgeous, and the digital techno-space music is exhilarating.
In Cosmic Bugs, you must navigate your way through a field of enemies, choosing the most opportune time to shoot your beams, closing off their paths. You must secure at least 85% of the field to move on to the next stage. When an area is fully enclosed, it changes color, killing all of the cosmic bugs in its way with it. Be careful though, those electronic insects aren't going to sit passively by as you try to squish them and remove their valued territory. If your lines -- while they are being created -- touch certain bugs, you will lose a life. If your ship is met by certain creatures while you are shooting out your beams, you will lose a life. The road will be difficult (but it'll be a lot of fun too!).
Out of this World
To shoot your beam, simply click the left mouse button. To switch between vertical and horizontal shots, click on the right mouse button. The key here, remember, is strategy. Do not rush your shots. It is in your best interest to try to cover as large an area as possible, eliminating as many of the bugs as you can along the way. If you do not, you will be left with very little room to manuever and several insects to avoid. This makes the task unnecessarily difficult.
Don't worry if you lose all your lives, however, because you can pick up close to where you left off. A checkpoint is created every fifth stage.
The Creature Feature
As you progress through this wonderful intergalactic adventure, you will encounter a variety of robot creatures. Some slowly crawl along the lines of the stage, whereas others freely travel around in the open areas.
The basic bugs slowly crawl along the borders of the stage. When you shoot a beam, they will momentarily pick up their pace and if they happen to meet your shot at the time it touches the border, your beam is nullified and you lose a life. Mechanical beetles can shoot out bombs that blow up portions of the stage, erasing some of your progress. Other creatures have similar abilities.
Weapons of Mass Destruction
There are several power-ups to be enjoyed here. If you manage to squash a few of those pesky metal vermin over the course of a level, sometimes they will release an orb that will slowly float to the bottom of the screen. Catch this orb with your ship to reap its benefits. The blue circles are power-ups, giving you such added abilities as a faster shot, equipping you with a time bomb, or even providing you with a powerful missile. Not all orbs are useful: if you grab a red orb, the results can be less than favorable. Your beams may be slowed, or the creatures may receive a speed burst, for example.
