Meet Wilson
Diaper Dash is the newest entry in the much, much, much-loved Dash series, which started years ago with Diner Dash. In this game, you play as Wilson, a scientist working at Rubby Ducky Inc., a lab that invents baby products. The lab has a strict policy against picking up the babies, but when Wilson sees a sad toddler, he can't help himself but cradle the little guy and he's promptly fired. I laughed out loud a few times at the game's opening; the premise is ridiculous and the dialogue is hilarious. When Wilson started talking to Flo (of Diner Dash fame) about the Sleepy Baby Blaster, Sticky Baby Scraper, and Gassy Baby Squeezer, I couldn't help but laugh.
Along with the clever story, the game features some gorgeous artwork and wonderful character design, making this a very impressive looking package. But does the game play meet the standards set by the rest of the presentation?
Dashing For Diapers
Anyone who has played any of the Dash series should know what to expect. In this product, your character runs a daycare. You'll be taking care of toddlers, which means you'll be darting back and forth along the playpen, toy area, cribs, changing table, and high chairs. Different babies want different things, so you'll need to keep watch on the bubbles above their heads to know where to take them next. When a child's parent shows up, grab their kid and throw them in the playpen, which is situated by the door.
Cleanliness is Key
A big aspect of your workday is cleaning up after the kids. Every so often a child will dirty one of the areas; you'll know by a big green odor cloud. To clean an area, simply click on it. If there isn't a child there waiting to be picked up - in which case your character will pick up the child - your character will sweep the area and it will be like new. The diaper table is a different story. While it doesn't get dirty in the traditional sense, you will have to dispose of the used diapers. If you go too long without throwing them out, you won't be able to change any more babies. When you begin, the dirty diaper limit is three, but that can be upgraded.
Cleanliness plays a big part in how much money you make. The cleaner your daycare, the more generous the parents. The cleaning element really adds a lot of fun to the game, as well as makes it more fast-paced.
Inventions
As the game progresses, not only can you purchase upgrades, you'll be rewarded with new inventions that will make your job easier. Wilson is an inventor, after all! The first invention is a cleaning robot that will help you keep the daycare nice and tidy.
Another Great Dash
I am continuously amazed by this series of games. While Diaper Dash definitely follows the same formula as its predecessors, it is absolutely its own game and doesn't feel repetitive in the slightest. If you liked any of the other products in the series or if you just have a fondness for toddlers, pick this up right now.
