A Gardener's Dream
The Tycoon games have been extremely popular for years. They offer gameplay that nobody else does, and because of this, they attract a lot of business from people looking for the not-so-typical gameplay experience. However, that uniqueness isn't the only reason for their huge success. They're also great games. Now, when one thinks about plants, I doubt "exciting PC game" would be the first thing to come to mind. But someone did think that and that kind of thinking brought about Plant Tycoon. Weird idea? A little bit, yeah. It is good? Oh it's very, very good. Put on your gardening gloves, because it's going to get messy.
I take that last line back. One of the greatest things about this game is that you can experience all the fun that can be had with gardening without having to get down and dirty. Yes, I realize I just called gardening fun, but it is! It can be very enjoyable and this product highlights those great moments without making you sit through all the work!
Gardening 101
There's a story here and it concerns six mythical plants that are native to the island of Isola. The plants are said to give the inhabitants of the island magical powers. Your quest in the game is to uncover those six magical plants through crossbreeding, but the truth is, I got so wrapped up in growing and caring for the plants that I had, I quickly lost interest in the end goal. The actual "work" in the game is surprisingly fun and extremely rewarding, so the notion of discovering six magical plants is really just icing on the cake.
In order to take good care of your babies - which is what I call them - you'll have to water them, prune them, feed, pollinate them, protect them from bugs, and so much more. These are some of the neediest plants that I have ever seen. Like I said, though, this part of the game is actually enjoyable! You get to care for your plants from their birth to their maturity, where you will then need to sell them in your nursery in order to make money to fund your cause.
As you start to rake in more cash, you can buy upgraded supplies such as better pruning shears, which will help you snip of unwanted leaves without doing much damage to the plant itself.
There are also a variety of chemicals for you to buy, from the run-of-the-mill bug spray to the more obscure plant growth formula. You can even buy a chemical that will cause all of your plant life to grow instantly!
The Fun is in the Plants!
Even for someone who gets bored as easily as I do, Plant Tycoon can keep you busy for a long time. After you eventually complete it, you'll likely want to come back again, because the fun is in taking care of your plants. Who knew that I would be this crazy about virtual gardening?
