Go Westward!
Westward II: Heroes of the Frontier is everything its predecessor was and more. If you were a fan of the first game, then that's all you really need to here. If you're completely new to this franchise, please read as I explain why this a must-have product!
This game puts you in charge of establishing, controlling, and protecting a town in the turmoil that was the wild west. You'll have to construct buildings, manage citizens, and fight off no-good bandits that are hell-bent on taking everything that you've worked so hard for. I know this sounds like a lot of work but believe me when I tell you that it's the most fun that you'll have sitting at your computer.
This is as Good a Place as Any
This product has a little bit of a learning curve, but don't worry, as your adventure kicks off with a very helpful tutorial that will get you well on your way. Once you've got a handle on things, you'll need to start building your town from the ground up. First things first, if you want your town to have inhabitants, they'll need a place to live! Your first priority should be housing. And although a roof over your head is important, let's not downplay the importance of food and water. Building wells and farms should keep everyone's bellies full and their thirsts quenched.
You'll need people to tend your crops and that's where you citizens come in. Everyone needs to pull their weight and it's up to you to employ every Joe and Jane that decides to take up residence in your small little village. Each place of employment can handle so many employees, so make sure that you send as much people to work in each place as you can.
Once you've got the basics squared away, you'll want to expand. You'll need to build a wood hut and hire lumberjacks to gather wood for building. Gold is also very important, so you'll want to find a gold vein and build a mine on top of it. You'll need to employ miners as well. If you find yourself short on employees, building more housing will bring in more people.
Bandits on the Horizon!
As your town grows, so does the risk of being invaded by bandits. Your main character can handle a gun, but he may not be enough. You'll want to round up a few gunslingers at the local saloon. This is also where the Heroes part of the title comes in. Unlike the first game in the series, this sequel features heroes that are incredibly powerful and can fight off even the toughest of villains.
Frontier Life was Never this Good
Westward II is a fantastic game, plain and simple. It's deep enough to provide for a long, challenging experience with loads of replay value, but it never becomes overly complicated. As you progress through the game, you'll be surprised at just how much control you have over your little frontier expansion. Anybody looking for something that offers a little more than your average puzzler will instantly fall in love with this game.
