Your Life Has Been Digitized
We live in a digital age, so it's only fitting that one of the absolute best family board games of all time has been translated into the digital realm. Whereas some other titles may restrict you to just a single realm or a single task, the Game of Life encompasses the entire journey that you will have from the time you enter the world to the time you enjoy your retirement in dignity.
Offering a heightened sense of reality, the board game has been beautifully transported to your computer screen with beautiful full-screen graphics, amazing and fun animations, and plenty of updates that breathe new life (no pun intended) without taking away from the nostalgic value of the classic.
Go ahead. Choose your avatar, hop in the car, and go for the ride of a lifetime.
Enhanced or Classic: Your Choice
For people who want to satiate their appetites for retro-styled fun, the Classic Mode offers an honest and true recreation of the original board game, but the Enhanced Mode brings a series of notable changes and upgrades to the adventure.
Upon embarking on your journey for the first time, for example, you must choose between going to school or heading straight into a career. If you opt for the latter in Classic Mode, you select one card at random and that is your occupation at the start of the game. If you opt for a career in Enhanced Mode, on the other hand, a matching mini-game pops up that adds a little flair (and a few more choices).
Further still, each occupation comes with its own unique advantage. The police officer receives $5,000 each time any player spins a "10" (speeding ticket), the athlete is eligible for larger pay raises when the time arises, and so on. More mini-games come up from time to time in Enhanced Mode to break up the action, not to mention the introduction of events like lawsuits! How realistic is that!
Rewarded for Achieving Goals
Another notable innovation in Enhanced Mode is the introduction of the Goals in Life. These are specific tasks for which you will be rewarded (in cold hard cash) upon achieving them. One of these is called Job Loyalty. If you manage to hold on to the same occupation for the entirety of a game, you earn a $250,000 bonus.
Some of the other Goals in Life include Early Retirement, Big Family, Model Citizen, Debt Free, and Jack of All Trades. Rewards for these goals can get as high as $500,000! Talk about motivation!
The Finer Details of Day-to-Day
Ironically, one of the most interesting things you can do with your life is to hop on your computer and play the Game of Life. It may not be a perfectly accurate representation of the real world, but this title translates mundane events in monumental occasions. Who knew paying taxes and getting sued could be so much fun? Further still, the developer has really brought the game into the 21st century: when you get married in the game, you can select a same-sex spouse!
