Luxor Mahjong is the latest in the extremely popular Luxor series, a series which has held a special place in my heart for a long time now. Now they take their magical Egyptian them to mahjong solitaire, a popular tile matching game. But they're doing a lot more than just matching the tiles. Read on to find out what.

Key to a Mummy's Heart

For those that have never played Mahjong, the rules are simple. Match as many tiles you can and try to clear the board. Tiles are often buried beneath other tiles, meaning that you have to match carefully or you run the risk of running out of moves, and then the game is over. Tiles are free to use when there are no tiles on either the left or the right of them. Tiles on the top and bottom, as well as overlaid on the tile, are free to use. Good luck trying to use a tile that you can't see!

This is where that old Luxor charm comes in and mixes things up. Aside from changing the designs on the tiles to an Egyptian theme, they've also added a new gameplay mode, as well as various power-ups. These power-ups add a lot to the fun and challenge to mahjong. These power-ups are as follows:

• Anubis' Fetch: Click on this tile and then any other tile on the board, and that tile will move to the position of the Anubis' Fetch tile.
• Horus Transformation: After clicking this tile, click two more tiles. Every tile that matches the second one, will change to look like the first one.
• Set's Storm: Set's Storm will remove all tiles that match the tile of your choice.
• Thoth's Exchange: Thoth's Exchange will swap the positions of two tiles of your choice. This is useful for digging out a buried tile.
• The Eye of Anubis: Shows you all possible matches for the tile of your choice. Lasts for 30 seconds after clicking.

3 Ways to Play

You get your choice of three game modes: standard, adventure, and single. Standard is your typical game of Mahjong, where you progress through the levels and try to beat your best times. This mode also includes the five bonus tiles.

Single is like your time trial mode. You play any one of your favorite levels (you choose, no need to start at the beginning) and try to beat your best time. This is a good mode if you don't feel like playing through all of the other levels to get to the one you like.

Adventure Mode is the meat and potatoes of Luxor Mahjong. In this mode, you try to find the key tiles to unlock the different doors. You must uncover and match two keys to activate them. The further you progress in the game, the more keys that you'll have to find in each level. The goal in this mode is to unlock all of the locks, while actually matching the least amount of tiles it takes to find the keys.
