A Classic Case of Whodunnit
When it comes to the murder mystery genre, there is no bigger name than Agatha Christie. The incredible author has produced numerous top-quality works that have enthralled readers for generations. The spirit behind these page-turners has now been translated to the hugely popular seek-and-find casual game genre with the arrival of Death on the Nile.
You've heard this story before. A group of people are found together in a fairly compact space and one of them is mysteriously murdered. It is up to you to investigate the case, find clues, and determine who was the person who committed the crime. Break out the magnifying glass and go through each of the ship's cabins and rooms, because there is a lot to find before you can piece this puzzle together. The mood has been set. The next move is yours.
Collecting Evidence
Like the many other seek-and-find games available on SpinTop Games, Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile presents you with a series of scenes in which you must find several hidden objects. These range from small items like dice and cups to larger objects like horses and drums. In the first couple of rooms, the first handful of hidden objects are reasonably easy to find, but as you get comfortable with the clicking mechanic -- and remember, you are under the clock -- the difficulty level begins to increase.
The things on your list will become more intricately hidden, perhaps only appearing in part, partially obscured by the rest of the scene. You'll also need to think about the items in slightly different ways: when it asks for a slithering snake, the item to be clicked may only be a photo and not an actual snake. To be a top notch murder mystery investigator, you'll need to really put on that thinking cap (and some great spectacles to get into the fine details).
Continuing the Investigation
While the "hidden objects" part of the game provides the biggest appeal to this title, there are thankfully other mini-games that take place between the stages in the game. You'll notice that in some scenes, you are presented with the task of collecting several pieces to a single item. For example, early on there will be a room where must find twelve pieces to a photo. After collecting them all and finishing that portion of the investigation, you are given the optional opportunity to arrange these pieces together, forming a coherent image to further your investigation.
These short distractions help add to the variety of the game and help break up the action.
Can You Solve the Mystery?
Agatha Christie is easily one of the best known novelists in the world and now she has lended her talents to an exceptional casual "hidden objects" game. Not only do you get top-notch seek-and-find gameplay and finely detailed graphics, but the backstory has been expertly written to really draw you into the plot. It's captivating, it's fascinating, and it's a whole lot of fun.
