A Lost City

The legend of the lost city of Atlantis has been told many times and seen many different incarnations. This time, it appears in Atlantis Quest, a fun puzzle game based around the famous tale. In it, you'll travel across Ancient Greece, Babylon, Egypt and more in your search for the ancient city and the statue that lies in the heart of, the magical golden Chimera. And even better, you'll solve awesome puzzles the whole way there!

This product features the ever popular matching system, in which you must match three or more symbols in a row in order to get rid of them. In keeping with the theme, you'll encounter symbols like gold coins, cats, and helmets of Roman soldiers. In each round, you must recover a piece (or pieces) of an ancient artifact that will help guide you to your destination. They will show up in your puzzle, and you must drop them out of the bottom by eliminating all of the symbols directly underneath them. This makes the action more goal oriented rather than just seeing how many points you can acquire.

Most puzzle games, especially those of the matching variety, suffer from being far too easy. Luckily that's not the case here. The objective of recovering the pieces of artifact adds a serious difficulty curve to something that would normally come off as easy. You'll think that you're doing good, especially with all the combos that you will pull off, but unless you can get that artifact put together, you don't have a chance!

Fantastic Presentation

A big part of this game's appeal is in it's fantastic theme. From the menus to the cut scenes to the actual game itself, everything retains the feel of an exciting expedition. All of the visuals represent the ancient civilizations very nicely, and the music really makes for a nice atmosphere. Given that the game's story is rooted in ancient mythology, you'll learn many things throughout the game from cut scenes and loading screens. You'll constantly read about Atlantis, Poseidon, and other infamous myths. You'll also receive explanations for all of the artifacts that you recover.

A Long Ordeal

If you take your time and concentrate, you may be able to finish a round in a good amount of time. However, even if you are able to breeze through them, there are an incredible 76 levels to keep you busy. Considering the short life span of most games, this is a pretty incredible achievement. And if for some reason you're worried that that's too much, the action is fast-paced enough to keep you on your toes and to prevent you from getting bored.

Atlantis Quest is a worthy entry into the puzzle genre. It has a surprisingly compelling story, addictive gameplay, and wonderful audio and visuals. Everyone can find something to enjoy here, especially if you're at all interested in mythology. To say it again, there is something here for everybody. It's fun, it's long, and it is absolutely worth your money.
