A Truly Electrifying Experience
Looking for a fantastic arcade-style puzzle game? Beetle Bomp puts you in charge of a unique launcher wherein you literally send bugs flying into one another, trying to create matching sets of three or more so that they can be removed from what appears to be a never-ending train of creepy crawlies. They're scurrying along on a set path, making their way toward the queen and it is up to you to stop them! If you don't, you'll have yourself a really bad infestation on your hands, and no one wants that!
The graphics are bright and cheery, the music is upbeat and whimsical, and the gameplay simply cannot be beat. Who would have known that going around and squishing bugs could be this much fun (and this colorful)?
Playing in the Yard
While the multicolored hard-shelled beetles play the central role in this game, you will also encounter a wide range of interesting insects as you make your way through this game. As you progress, you'll come across flying bugs like bees and butterflies, as well as a few stranger fellows like centipedes and more. Each of them must be approached in a slightly different way, and they'll each offer you a very special reward if you eliminate them properly. For example, if you smack a butterfly with a launched beetle, the winged wonder will send down a shower of sparks.
Sparks? What good could those be? Well....
Restore Power to the Neighbourhood
In the main Quest mode, it turns out that the small town where you're living has suddenly lost all of its electricity. As Lyle, you must help recover all those amps, watts, and ohms by collecting the sparks emitted from the electrifying beetles, butterflies, and other bugs. They only start shooting out these tiny bursts of energy when you complete three matching sets in a row or cause a chain reaction by eliminating just the right creepy crawlers. Collect enough of these sparks and your zapper will be filled with power. At this point, the train of bugs will suddenly accelerate, but your launcher also becomes more powerful, shooting faster and more accurately. Clear the entire line of bugs to finish a stage, and the queen will attempt to retreat, sending down beetle eggs for your collection. It is with these that you will restore power to the neighbourhood.
The story is presented as a series of movies, telling you a tale of lost electricity and captured bugs. You can view all of these videos in the "movies" section from the main menu.
Classic Gameplay
Alternatively, there is the Classic game mode for you to enjoy as well. The mechanic is fundamentally the same, but there are no sparks to collect. Just get rid of that infestation, collect stars to rack up the bonus points, and move on to the next level.
Fun control discs and other upgrades can be knocked out of the train, giving you all sorts of extra abilities and bonuses. These range from the Super Spark Disc to the Freeze Disc, from the Reverso Disc to the Energy Magnet Disc. Unlock them all and see what they do!
Getting All Bugged Out
With over 125 unique levels to enjoy, you'll easily get hours upon hours of enjoyment out of Beetle Bomp. Relive your childhood where you played in the sandbox, encountering centipedes and ants for the first time, except this time around you get to collect them without ever getting your hands dirty. A great, electrifying time.
