Vacation Time
Big Kahuna Reef is the perfect game for a puzzle fan who needs a vacation, but for some reason or another, can't get away. With this product, you'll be transported to the deepest part of the ocean where you'll see dazzling fish and have the time of your life. You'll also get the catchy tropical music to go with it! I'm not trying to set expectations too high here, I'm simply saying that if you're looking for an escape from everyday life, than you've found it!
Match 3
This game abides by the traditional match-3 gameplay style. The objects that you'll be matching all have a sea life theme to them, including seashells, pearls, oysters, shrimp, shark teeth, and more. They're all beautifully rendered and look fantastic.
For the two of you out there who aren't quite familiar with match-3 gameplay, you're required to make rows of three or more of the same object. You do this by clicking one object and then clicking an adjacent object to swap them. The swap is only temporary, however, so if you don't make a legitimate match, the pieces will return to their original locations.
Another thing that is similar to all other match-3 games is that you must make rows over certain squares. These squares have a wooden background, and when you match over them, the wood shatters. The object of the game is to eliminate all of these backgrounds. Once they're gone, victory is yours.
Special Objects
There are four special objects that can be found in the game. Unfortunately, only one of them is purely beneficial, while the other three can possibly harm you.
Sometimes you'll stumble across some pieces that have been rendered unmovable by big, metal locks. The only way to be rid of these objects is to bring two of the same objects to them and matching them there.
Metal boxes exist for the sole purpose of being a pain in the neck. These metal monstrosities reside in the background, behind the objects, but over the wooden boxes than you so dearly need to break. Match over the metal to get rid of it and reveal the wood. Simply put, squares with metal boxes need to be matched over twice.
The Skeleton Fish of Kamehameha can be either a blessing or a curse. If you directly match three of these guys (deliberately swap them into place), then they will reconstruct the boxes underneath them, making more work for you. However, if they form a row indirectly (if they fall into place do to another match), they will net you bonus points and clear the boxes underneath.
What would be the fun in revealing everything? The last special object I'll leave for you to discover.
