A Long Hidden Treasure
The riveting, pulse-pounding story of The Book of Legends begins with a young scholar named Charleston Black. While in the basement of the Saint Benedict Church in Washington D.C., cataloging the vast archive of ancients text, Charleston stumbles upon a long buried secret. It's a book, hidden and sought after by forces both good and evil for over two centuries. It's the Book of Legends, and it tells where the legendary sword Excalibur is hidden.
Immediately knowing that he's onto something big, Charleston quickly ships the book off to his sister Zoe, which of course puts her in immediate danger. At first she's skeptical of the warnings, but when a trio of suspicious looking men in black suits knock on her door, she knows she's in trouble. She hops out the window and we're off!
Detective Work
Searching for Excalibur is no easy task, but it is a fun one. Book of Legends is primarily a hidden objects game, but it's a lot more than that, too. While you will spend a good portion of the time searching for items, you'll also have to solve various puzzles, many times using the items that you find.
For example, in the first level, my character had to find a boat. While she found the boat on her own, I had to help her find the means to operate it. This included finding a funnel and some gasoline, and then pouring that gasoline into the engine.
There was also a part where I had to drive down the Potomac River and look for a certain landmark. I was actually in control of the boat here. I could go back and forth as I searched the shoreline. After I got to my desired location, the thing I was looking for was too far away for the naked eye to see, so I had to find and use binoculars. This is what I mean when I say that the product expands beyond the traditional hidden objects genre.
Riddle Me This
One of the best and most mind-bending features of this product is its use of riddles. The book gives you a riddle for each location which, if you can solve it, will get you what you're looking for. This adds a whole new thinking element to the game. While some levels are more traditional than others - giving you lists of items to find - some levels force you to figure out what it is you're even searching for.
At any time during the game, you click on the "book" tab in the bottom left corner to read the clue. You can also click on the "log" tab to read past conversations between Charleston and Zoe.
Curl Up With a Good Book
There is something special about The Book of Legends. It combines a thrilling story with satisfying, smart gameplay, resulting in an absolutely magical experience. This is a product worth checking out, as this is like nothing you've ever played before.
