Donuts ahoy!

I love donuts. And I mean really love donuts. It was my love for these pastries that got me so excited about playing a game that revolved around baking the bad boys. Now, Digby's Donuts may be as delicious as the real thing - and I in no way condone eating a copy of the game - but it's a surefire way of having a great time!

You play as Digby, a young baker with high aspirations. He wants to open his own donut shop - and then a chain of them, all over the world! It's up to you to help him realize his dream of national domination - err - donut-ation!

Rake in the Dough

There are a lot of games nowadays that revolve around food preparation, especially hamburgers. However, I don't know if I've seen one involving donuts. Now, I could be wrong, but regardless, there aren't a lot of games that tackle the subject matter. As I stated before, that was the first thing that interested me about this product, and I think that that originality is indeed a high point. Who doesn't want to be in charge of a donut empire?

Now, the key thing in business in cash. Cold, hard cash. And in order to make the big bucks, you'll have to be quick on your feet and good at your job.

You're in charge of stacking and separating the donuts. They'll fall from the top of the screen, and you must catch them on your flipper. Then, you must drop them into the donut case below. If you stack three or more of the same color donuts, they'll disappear and you'll receive a tip. The more donuts you match at once, the higher of a tip you'll get.

A good strategy to keep in mind, especially once you get further in the game and more donuts fall even faster, is to get a big stack on your flipper before attempting to drop them. There's always a little break in-between donut showers where you'll have an opportunity to drop them off. Attempting to drop each one as you get it will prove to be far too frantic and ultimately just screw you up.

There haven't been a lot of games that utilize this particular mechanic, but there should be it. It provides a lot of fun and really keeps you on your toes like few games can.

Franchise vs. Arcade

There are two different game modes to be played here: Franchise mode, which is the main adventure mode that has you setting up shop all over the country; and arcade mode, which is an endless, merciless onslaught of donuts that you must survive for as long as you possibly can. Both offer very different gameplay experiences and help to extend the life of this already fantastic game.

I had a lot of fun with this one, as I'm sure you would too. It's something different, which is rare in this world of identical PC games.
