A Dream Come True

Every girl has countless fantasies about her wedding day. They spend hours daydreaming about every little detail of it, from the location and time to the color of the flowers and the music that will be played. For most girls, weddings are the stuff that fairy tales are made of. well, too bad I'm a guy. still, I have a lot of fun playing Dream Day Wedding, even if it's not the most masculine thing in the world.

I Spy type games, that is - games where you must seek out hidden objects and creatures a such, are extremely popular and have only been gaining momentum as of late. Before the era of desktop computers, games such as these could be found in newspapers and tabloids. Like everything else, they inevitably evolved into digital form. And like everything else, the experience has gotten significantly better.

The Wonderful World of Weddings

Dream Day Wedding is based on the wedding of a one Jennifer Gilman. Her story is one that you help create throughout the game. In each level, you must help her prepare for her wedding by going from location to location, picking up things that she needs. For example, the first level has you visit the floral shop and the salon, finding objects that have been written on a list.

Each background is very vibrant and alive, ensuring for a fun and unique experience. The objects are all very cleverly hidden and require a certain degree of concentration to track down. This makes the game very challenging and rewarding, two things that cement its place as a very enjoyable game with good staying power.

After you find the required amount of items, you'll get to play a mini-game. I don't want to spoil all of the surprise, so I'll just tell you of two. In one of them, you'll be required to play a game of concentration, where you're presented with a number of face down cards and you flip them over two at a time until you match them all. The object here is to gather a unique item that is crucial to the honeymoon.

Another mini-game has you creating Jennifer's romance story in a format similar to choose-your-own-adventure books. You'll be given a scenario and you have to choose one of three outcomes for each, eventually writing a significant part of the story. This mode isn't exactly fun in itself, but the idea that you're helping shape the overall game is very neat and something that I would love to see incorporated into other games.

Despite the fact that the subject matter blatantly caters towards the female persuasion, I found a lot to like in Dream Day Wedding. The gameplay was solid and provided a very worthwhile challenge. The visuals were pleasing and the game's classical score was right up my alley.

The mini-games added a lot of variation to the experience, which not enough games do. Too many games tend to drag after a while and it was nice to see a change in formula.

Finally, the ability to control the story was very fun and experimenting with the different choices gives you plenty of reason to play through this game multiple times.
