Let's go back. Let's go back nearly half a millennium to the year 1536. It was during that year that the royal family was mysteriously massacred. Everyone assumed that the entire family was killed, as this was a full decade after the Spaniards conquered the Yucatan peninsula. It was assumed that there was no Mayan royalty who survived the attack. But we all know what happens with assumptions...
Years later, archaeologists unearthed relics and artifacts that were dated to 1556, a full twenty years since the supposed massacre. What made these artifacts particularly interesting was they appeared to have belonged to a Mayan princess and thus, she may have been the only survivor of the murders. It is now up to you, as an expert archaeologist, to reveal her secret tale and to truly understand what happened to her family.

A Fresh Take on Hidden Objects
At its core, Forgotten Riddles: Mayan Princess is a hidden objects game that will present you with a highly detailed scene, filled with rich colors and vivid authenticity. Unlike other offerings, however, you will not be presented with an explicit list of items to find that are hidden in the scene. Instead, each stage is composed of a number of runes.
These are lined up at the bottom of the screen and on each rune is a puzzle that you must first solve. The answer to each puzzle is the item that you must seek.
For example, one clue is "To document landscapes, I might do the trick; I'll preserve them on film with a flash and a click." That refers to a camera. Another example is "If you fill me with water and then pour it out, I'll irrigate plants through my sprinkling spout." That refers to a watering can.
These riddles are a heck of a lot of fun, because they had a whole new dimension to the hidden objects genre. That, and rhyming riddles are just fun to read out loud anyways.
Taking the Story for a Spin
After solving a certain number of cryptic clues and recovering an adequate number of ancient Mayan relics, you will be provided an opportunity to earn the next page in the story of the mysterious Mayan princess. Her tale has survived nearly 500 years, so has obviously hidden her story quite well from the Spanish conquistadors.
To get the next chapter in her story, you will be shown a grid of images. Each tile in this grid can be rotated 90, 180, 270, or 360 degrees and the goal is to produce a cohesive image out of all the tiles. Line up those edges and try to decipher what scene is being depicted. When an entire row or column has been aligned correctly, it will dim. Dim the whole page to receive the princess' story.

The atmosphere presented this game is absolutely enthralling. You will be thrilled to learn more about the Mayan princess as you explore the Yucatan peninsula. The scenes are quite eclectic, because they contain both ancient ruins as well as modern conveniences left behind by tourists and other archaeologists.
