Glyph Returns!
The world of Kuros was born out of Chaos and took shape according to the five elements. In time, life emerged and named them wood, fire, water, metal, and aether. Each element is capable of life, but also contains an evil dark side. Even the adepts, masters at wielding the elements, were unable to stop the darkness from swallowing Kuros.
Only an adept exiled for touching the shadow can save the world. You are that exile.
My Introduction to the Series
I never got a chance to play the original Glyph and now, after playing the sequel, I sincerely regret it. I knew from the moment I fired up the main quest that I was in for something special and I was right. As a huge fan of fantasy and science fiction, I immediately fell in love with the story. It's both entertaining and original, qualities that you don't see too much these days.
If you're not a fan of the aforementioned genres, don't turn away just yet. Regardless of the story, the game play found within is incredibly fun and finds a way to make an age-old formula feel brand new.
Glyph is a classic match-3 puzzler. You won't be swapping tiles, however, you'll simply be clicking as they fall into place. There are three primary colors: red, green, and blue, each with their own unique symbol. Once you mouse-over a group of three or more, they start to shake violently, possibly aware of their imminent exploding demise. Clicking them will get rid of them, as well as the ground beneath them. The objective is destroying enough of the underlying tile to reveal the energy below.
The Eternal Battle Between Light and Dark
There are various special pieces and powers for you to utilize as you progress through the game. Some of the dark pieces will make your job harder and stop you from making matches, while light pieces will help you by vanquishing all of the dark pieces. It's a fine balance.
One of the most interesting features that the game has to offer are special gesture spells. Once you earn a spell and build up enough power to use it, you simply make the corresponding gesture with your mouse to activate it. Say you can't find any good matches and you want to shuffle all the pieces? Simply hold the left mouse button and make a "Z" across the screen. If you perform it correctly, all you need to do is click to rearrange everything. It's every bit as fun as it sounds.
Defeat the Darkness For Good
Glyph 2 is a fantastic game and, while I haven't played the first in the series, I can only assume that this sequel is a very worthy follow-up. It combines a great story with fun and satisfying game play, which is all it takes to make a true masterpiece. The best part is, it will only take you about 2 minutes to get into the swing of things. If you're looking for something simple and innovative, look no further than Glyph 2.
