Review: Highly Addictive
Luxor 2, the sequel to the 2005 super smash hit, takes players for a whole new adventure through the majestic land of Egypt. You'll get to see all the sights while having the time of your life! This product offers twice the fun of the original with it's lightning-fast gameplay, beautiful graphics, and a ton of added features.
King Tut Ain't Got Nothin' On This!
Luxor 2 is a fact-paced, quick-thinking puzzle game. Each level has you facing off against a line of swiftly moving colored spheres, which you must destroy before they reach the pyramids; you do this by matching spheres of the same color, which then explode in a beautiful blaze of accomplishment. You control a golden scarab at the bottom of the screen that can move back and forth a la breakout and launch spheres. Once each line is destroyed, bonus items such as gems and gold with spew out and you must catch this with your scarab in order to receive the points that they offer.
However, you certainly aren't without help. A plethora of power-ups can be had by utilizing a little skillful shooting. Activating combos will not only help you rack-in some major points, but will reward you with special items to use against the spheres. These include, but are not limited to:
- Scorpion (Automatically destroys a section of a line)
- Daggers (Shoot daggers that destroy spheres one by one)
- Lightning Storm (Triggers a lightning storm that destroys random spheres)
- Fireball (Destroys a good chunk of a line)
- Color Cloud (Changes all the spheres it touches to one color)
Bonus Time
At the end of each level, you'll get to participate in a bonus round. Lines of spheres will shoot by faster than normal, and you've got to destroy them all with daggers. If you time your shots right, you can make same-colored spheres touch and trigger massive combos. You don't have to destroy all of the spheres, but you receive extra points if you do.
Movin' On Up
One thing that this game offers over it's predecessor is a new rank system, in which you can advance all the way to the rank of Pharaoh. As you progress through the game, you'll move up the charts, adding a nice little incentive to an already addictive game.
Choose Your Fate
Luxor 2 offers three distinct gameplay modes. Adventure mode is your typical, well, adventure! The levels will get steadily harder as you progress through, traveling across the entirety of Egypt. Survival modes throws an infinite amount of spheres at you and tests how long you can survive the onslaught. Finally, practice mode lets you practice your shootin' skills before taking it to the big leagues.
Sight-Seeing
Luxor 2 is one gorgeous puzzler. Everything has a pristine shine to it, making it really stand out when compared with other games of the same genre. The effects look really nice, especially the lightning effects. It's all very impressive for a game that requires so little computing power. The sound is also nicely done, adding a certain immersive quality to the overall experience.
