Nothing to Do with the Professor or Mary Ann
There's just something to be said about the story of getting stranded on a deserted island that appeals to our sense of adventure. From popular television shows to award-winning movies, we have explored the possibility of being marooned somewhere without the creature comforts that we'd get at home. To make matters even more intriguing for this latest journey, the protagonist cannot remember who she is or how she got there.
The task now falls up on you to explore the small tropical island, searching for clues that may lead back to your identity and the possibility of going home. As you trek through the tropical forest and slash your way through the bush, you learn that scientists once occupied this island. What did they do here? Where are they now? Does this have anything to do with your current circumstances.
Clearing Through the Foilage
Traveling between the different locations on the island, you will be presented with the opportunity to seek out clues and discover objects that may point toward a way to get back home. The lush greenery that surrounds you may look like a tropical paradise, filled with singing birds and bright sunshine, but this will become a prison if you don't find a way out!
Each location may offer different types of hidden objects that you will need to find. Some of these are the standard lists of items, like feathers and boots. Others may require you to find several pieces of a single larger item, like a solar panel that appears to be missing from a nearby building. Thirdly, there may be some "combination" items that need two objects or more objects to be completed.
Progressing through these stages, you'll find that as you find all the items on the list, one of the more important tools will slowly become unlocked in the center portion of the bottom toolbar. This tool can then be used somewhere on the island to further your journey and better complete your investigation.
The Interactive Environment
The engaging storyline and terrific voice acting in this game are already enough to keep a player captivated for hours on end, pulling him or her deeper and deeper into the dark jungles depicted in this title. As if the hidden objects side wasn't challenging enough, another challenge awaits inside.
For most of the areas in the game, there are select objects that become illuminated when a mouse pointer is hovered above them. This also turns the mouse cursor into a puzzle piece, indicating that a minor puzzle needs to be solved here. Clicking on the object yields a short clue, like wondering how you can access a chest buried in the sand. Unlocking the shovel, you can then dig up the chest and look inside for vital clues.
Marooned truly is a complete adventure filled with mystery, peril, and a rich reward for a job well done.
