Jessica Fletcher Returns!
The middle-aged widowed crime author who solves murder mysteries in her spare time, Jessica Fletcher, is back in this nail-biting hidden objects adventure. Have you ever wanted to be Jessica Fletcher? While I'm more of a James Bond fan, Ms. Fletcher has plenty of admirable qualities and I imagine a number of women, both young and old, wouldn't mind spending a day in her shoes. Well, now you're closer than you'll ever be with the Murder, She Wrote computer game.
The Legacy
I was still a boy when the Murder, She Wrote television series ended, so I was never a fan, but my aunt was, and I remember catching bits and pieces at her house. Based on a novel by Agatha Christie, the crime series starring Angela Lansbury in the lead role lasted for an impressive twelve seasons and is one of CBS's most successful shows to date. Needless to say, a lot of people tuned in to see Jessica Fletcher solve that week's mystery. If you missed the show, like me, here's your chance to experience what all the ruckus was about!
Five Mysteries in One
Most computer games offer a single story, but that isn't enough for Ms. Fletcher. Murder, She Wrote offers five playable mysteries, with each one unlocking after the previous has been completed. That alone gives this product a lot of bang for your buck, but there's still the question of whether or the not the stories are actually entertaining. The short answer is yes, absolutely.
The first story, A Deadly Catch, starts out innocent enough. Jessica has some company coming over for dinner and she wants to treat them to an authentic Maine lobster dinner. When she learns that the local shop is out of stock, she heads to one of the fishing boats, the Cornelia, to see if she can purchase some straight from the fishermen. Upon her arrival, she finds the ship's owner, Peter Hammond, murdered. The body has a strange stab wound, almost as if left by a tube of some sort. What could of left such a wound? That's part of the mystery!
Everything works together wonderfully to make a great murder mystery. The setting, the visuals, and the audio, especially the voice acting, set up the perfect ambiance and the plot is everything you could want out of a classic crime story.
The Hunt Begins
This is a hidden objects game, which is fitting for a premise such as this. You'll spend your time looking for clues that will ultimately help you get to the truth. The standard building blocks of the hidden objects genre are present, such as clues and hidden items that help you get more clues, but the gameplay has a few unique twists up its sleeve. The items in your list are missing letters, and some you won't be able to read at all at the beginning. You can fill in the gaps by finding the missing typewriter letters scattered throughout the scene.
Where Do I Sign Up?
Like I said earlier, I was too young to be a fan of Murder, She Wrote, but if this game is any indication of the show's quality, I'll gladly sign up to be part of the fan club.
