The Most Fun I've Had in a Long Time
The computer game market has its fair share of ups and downs. Most of the stuff out there on the market is simply passable; there are the rare amazing gems, but there is also a lot of garbage. The Scruffs definitely falls into the former category. With its entertaining story, amazing animation, superb voice acting, and hilarious dialogue, there's enough great stuff here to make a really entertaining TV show! Once you throw the fun gameplay into the mix, you've got yourself one heck of a computer game!
When I first started the product up, I was impressed with the wonderful narration. Voice acting isn't something that you see often in games like this, so it's always a welcome treat, especially when it's as well acted as this. Once the cut scene rolled around, I was completely blown away. The animation is top notch and each character has his or her own distinct look. The whole artistic style is very charming and perfectly compliments the fantastic voice acting. To top all of this off, the dialogue is very intelligent and witty and I found myself laughing out loud more than a few times.
The story goes as such: Mr. Scruff, the man of the house, has just lost his job. When all seems lost, grandpa rushes in to save the day with a long-kept family secret; the only problem is that he can't remember what that secret is. He'll need your help to spark his memory, and so the game begins!
The Hidden Objects Genre at its Best
The Scruffs is a hidden objects game and one of the finest that I've ever played. It provides beautiful looking levels and fun challenges, fun enough to even rival those of the Mystery Case Files series. Each level gives you eight or so objects that you're required to find. The standard rules apply: clicking too much in wrong places will eventually dock your time. Hints are available in the form of the family dog, but they're handled differently (and better, in my opinion) than most games. When you feed the dog a bone, he'll go after the first item on your list. As you move your cursor around the screen, he'll start barking more the closer you get to the object. This is much better than simply having the game point the object out to you, as it doesn't just completely kill the challenge.
The intriguing plot helps move the game along and it's surprisingly lengthy for what it is. Those who often feel ripped off after beating a game in a couple of hours should be pleasantly surprised at just what The Scruffs has to offer. Not only will it take you a good while to complete, but there are also mini-games to help occupy your time. With it's great gameplay and outstanding production values, The Scruffs is the most fun I've had at my computer in a long time. I recommend you pick this one up right away.
