Welcome to the Manor
Our story revolves around young Edwina Margrave. Orphaned at a young age, she was raised by her Godfather. Then, on her 20th birthday, she got a strange letter from her Grandfather, Edwin. It was dated 10 years ago and contained a weird fragment of stone. Your grandfather refers to it as the "Rosetta Stone of Margrave" and says it was Edwina's father's key to Margrave Manor.
Now Edwina has come to the manor in search for some answers. She was greeted by her grandfather's butler, Gerard. But Edwin is not there. In fact, he's been missing for ten years. Gerard informs you that your stone fragment, the one your grandfather referred to as the Margrave Rosetta Stone, is actually a piece of the family crest. While searching for your missing grandfather, Gerard stumbled upon a strange room with an outline of the crest on the door. Your piece fits in perfectly, but there are still many pieces to be found.
Can you find all of the pieces and unlock the door? Can you ultimately find out what happened to your grandfather 10 years ago? With Gerard's help, your adventure begins!
Hidden Objects
The manor is messy and cluttered (what does that Butler do, anyway?), which makes it the perfect setting for a hidden objects game. What's even better is that the writers of the game made sure that the gameplay fit into the storyline. So many games just throw logic out the window entirely when it comes to the actual game mechanics, but here you're fetching objects for a purpose. If Gerard needs tools to fix the fuse box, you'll have to find the tools he needs. It all makes sense and makes for a more immersive experience.
When you're actually searching for items, the gameplay is simple. See an item, click it, and be done with it. The items you're looking for are listed at the bottom of the screen. If at any time you find yourself stuck, you can use a hint, but you only have a limited number. Unlike other games, where hints will show you the location of a random item, here you can pick which item you're looking for and it will be revealed. One thing I found interesting about the game is how it gives you hints. While some games give you a limited number each stage and some games make you find them, here you get one hint every 3 minutes. It works well, especially if you're stuck.
Not every level is a hidden objects level. Some will require you to spot the differences. While it's similar, it requires a whole different approach and makes for a different experience altogether. For even more variety, every now and then you'll have to solve a special puzzle to further the story.
A Must Have
Margrave Manor combines addictive gameplay with rich storytelling and the end result is a fantastic game. If you're looking to be entertained, then you've come to the right place. Step inside the manor.
