The Investigative Ladies Are Back
The first games featuring the Women's Murder Club introduced us to a group of strong women who investigate and solve some of the most violent and famous homicides that this world has ever known. We once again dive into the violent underbelly of the night for this third iteration, once again demonstrating that evil can lurk around any corner and lightning really can strike twice.
Starting out in the role of Lindsay Boxer, a homicide detective with the San Francisco Police Department, you will seek out the source of a mysterious note, discover a bloody corpse in a dark alley, and seek to find how that dead body in the night came to be. Was it a murder in cold blood? What could possibly lead someone to commit such an atrocity?
From there, you'll have the opportunity to play through different stages in the game as other members from the Women's Murder Club, including forensic examiner Claire Washburn and bleeding edge journalist Cindy Thomas. Each character brings on a new perspective and personality.
It Was a Dark and Stormy Night
No one ever said that murder was a pretty sight and the utter ugliness of the act is perfectly represented in this latest adventure. Providing a dark and brooding atmosphere not unlike those created by the best Hollywood thrillers, Twice in a Blue Moon does a terrific job in setting the mood.
The visuals can get bloody and somewhat graphic, not to mention the creepy sounds of the night that fill the air in just about every location you visit. In this way, this particular title may frighten young children and may not be appropriate for younger audiences. For more mature audiences, you must overcome this inherent fear and solve the ghastly murders.
Seeking the Relevant Clues
Unlike some other hidden object games that seem to place the strangest of objects in the least likely of locations, this title does a terrific job of keeping the hidden items as relevant as possible to the current situation.
For instance, before Lindsay Boxer has the opportunity to embark on her first investigation, she has to collect the necessary tools and equipment that she will need to seek out the suspect and learn the nature of the homicide. While in the police precinct, you will be told to find maps, highlighters, rulers, and riot shields.
As you head into the dark and scary back alleys of the night, you will be faced with black cats, discarded newspapers, and forgotten umbrellas. These all fit in perfectly with the atmosphere and offer a realistic viewpoint into the environment where a murder just may take place in the real world.
Riddle Me This, Solve Me That
In addition to the main hidden objects style gameplay that you will enjoy at a variety locations around the San Francisco area, this incredible title is also filled with a series of different puzzles and riddles that will challenge your reasoning abilities.
In one of the early examples in one of the first investigations, Boxer must discover the name of the street that she should be seeking. Provided with a map of the area, she is also presented with a cryptic clue from the supposed murderer. The clues help her to eliminate certain streets, like telling her that the street name will not contain the name of a state and it will not start with a certain letter. By process of elimination, you can discover the location of the next murder scene.
This really helps to provide a great deal of variety and intrigue to an already captivating tale of blood and homicide. Will you solve the murder? Will you bring the culprit to justice?
