Welcome to Cattail Meadows
Cattail Meadows is home to the greatest swimming pond in the world, if we're to believe Quax, the leading duck and hero of this tale. Quax has loved swimming all his life, but his fun came to a crashing halt when the beavers showed up and ruined everything.
The beavers built hundreds of dams, stopping the flow of water and leaving the pond a dried out mess. Not being able to stand it any longer, our heroic duck friend has constructed a catapult that has the power to destroy the dams. However, he can't do it alone! He'll need your help!
Wrecking with Words
Dam Beavers is a word game. In each level, you'll have to make words out of all the letters on the screen. The bigger the word, the more powerful it is.
Once you make a word, an appropriately-sized watermelon appears on the catapult, just waiting for you to hit the launch button. Once hit, the melon will fling at the dam, destroying all of the letters you used, allowing new ones to drop in. The objective is to fill the dam meter, which is located on the right side of the screen. You do so by dishing out damage. Once that meter fills up, down goes the dam.
Of course, the beavers aren't going to just sit back and let you ruin their hard work. Enemies will show up on top of the dam and throw logs at your catapult. If too much damage is done, the catapult will break and you will lose. Keep an eye on your health meter to prevent that from happening. Special repair letters will show up every now and then that, when used in a word, completely repair your weapon.
You don't have to take this, however. Launching big words (around five or more) will knock your assailants off of the structure and put an end to them. The log-chewing critters will also approach you on the ground, but simply click on them to scare them away.
Finally, you'll see plenty of power-ups and special logs that require a unique approach. The power-ups range from repair logs to bee swarms, which will unleash a swarm of bees to chase away attackers. You'll also encounter things like decayed logs, which have no letter and are completely useless. To get rid of one, simply use the letters underneath it until it drops out the bottom.
That's just a small sampling of the things you'll encounter in game.
A Wild Ride
Dam Beavers is one of the most enjoyable games I've played in a long time, possibly ever. The story and artwork are amazing and add a lot of charm to what is otherwise a pretty simple story. The gameplay is insanely fun and is a nice departure from hidden object games and match-3 puzzlers. The character of Quax is very likable and you'll find he's an easy character to root for.
My inability to stop gushing about this game should tell you how much I love it. Dam Beavers is charming, funny, and "dam" fun! If there ever was a must-have game, then this is it!
