Spelling Has Never Been So Much Fun!
In Scrabble Blast, the beloved board game of letters and words gets turned on its head and believe me, all hell breaks loose. The classic game gets the digital treatment and somewhat of an overhaul, making it closer to Bookworm than the actual game it gets its title from. Everything is changing, so why not Scrabble? Not all change is bad, my friend.
The key element that makes Scrabble great is completely intact: bonus tiles! Any fan of the game will attest to the allure of these sacred spots. They come in four variations: double letter, triple letter, double word, and triple word. See, each tile is worth a certain amount of points based on the how common of a letter it is. When you form a word, you add up the points of each individual letter. If it's covering either the double word or triple word bonus tiles, you multiply the score accordingly. If a letter in a word is on top of a letter bonus tile, you adjust the points of that letter and that letter only. When playing with multiple people, the desire to get these squares can break the bonds of friendship. Here, you get them all to yourself.
A Little Variety
You get the luxury of choosing from three different game modes, each one offering it's own fair share of fun.
In One Bag, you get a bag of 100 tiles and you have to use as many letters as possible, earning the highest score that you can. Thinking ahead is your the best strategy to use here, as you don't want to dig yourself in a hole.
Puzzle Mode introduces the dreaded number bombs. These explosive tiles have a letter, as well as a small number in the corner, indicating the length of the word that the tile must be used in. Once used, the tile will explode, never to harm anyone again!
Finally, Action mode requires quick acting as bombs fall from the top at dangerous speeds. They'll continue to fall as you search for words, and if they reach the ground, you lose! Better act fast if you want to stay alive in this mode.
Tag Along
On the right of the screen at all times is Maven the Dictionary. He will jump and flip and do all sorts of crazy stuff while you play. I can only imagine how boring it must be to watch someone spell out words!
Like most sidekicks, he can be a little annoying, but for a novice, he's invaluable. He'll explain the rules as you go along and he'll even help you find words if you're stuck. I must admit, I've even called on him for help a few times. I'm sorry I ever doubted you, Maven.
Speaking of dictionaries, the official Scrabble dictionary is built into the game, making it even more like the home version! Although the nature of the game doesn't allow you to challenge words, it's extremely helpful when you want to know the definition of any given term. Very few games allow you to have fun and learn at the same time.
Can You Spell F-U-N?
Fans of word games can rejoice; another quality game has made its way into the genre!
