Fresh Take On a Classic Game
I've always enjoyed word-based games. They're always a lot of fun, but they also allow me to take advantage of an ever-expanding mental dictionary. You could say that I'm a bit of a literati in this way. No word game has ever been quite as popular as Scrabble. Sitting around with a couple of friends, shuffling those tiles, and getting creative with our word placements, Scrabble provided hours of fun.
Scrabble is a classic, but after playing it so many times, I'm always on the lookout for something new, fresh, and exciting. Scrabble Journey really hits the spot, because you still get to piece those tiles together, but the objective is quite different than the original game.
Transversing the Game Board
In the single-player Quest mode, you are provided with a plethora of interesting stages and none of these are the conventional square. You have to navigate your way around buildings, trees, and strange empty spaces in the game board, so strategy plays a much bigger role than before. You start out on the "star" space on the left end of the board and your goal is to link together a series of words so that you can reach the exit on the other end.
There is no clock to concern you and there is no opponent other than your own knowledge and the unique layout of the board. As with regular Scrabble, you will always have seven letter tiles at your disposal at any given time. Just be careful when you are trying to get across the "bridges", as you don't want to limit your options for getting across to your ultimate destination!
It Starts In London
The story that serves as the backdrop to this title is that you are trying to join the Society of Puzzle Adventurers. Before they will welcome you into their fold, you must be able to circumnavigate the globe in under 80 days. Each day, you will be faced with a board in a new locale, whether it be Paris, Moscow, or Calcutta, and you must complete them all to get back to London within the 80 day time limit.
That is the nature of this tile-based journey. The background image and music change with each city, as does the complexity of the game board. Your adventure may start in London, but who knows where this Scrabble Journey may take you...
Double Letter, Triple Word Score
Just like the traditional game, this title also offers a series of spaces where you can accumulate more points. From the double letter spaces to the triple word scores, they're all here. What's more, you'll also find some treasure chests on certain spaces. By building a word on top of these chests, you reveal some rather nifty trophies and other valuables.
