Can You Spell F-U-N?
Scrabble is the most popular spelling game on the face of the planet and has be teaching kids and adults alike to spell for years and for that it is to be commended. On the other hand, it also forces people to constantly make up words, and after a while, those imaginative chunks of gibberish are bound to enter your vocabulary and get mixed up with the real words. Well, "them's the breaks" as they say.
It's a truly fantastic thing to be able to learn as you have fun and Scrabble accomplishes just that. It's a pretty challenging test of skill, but always manages to stay fun and never become overbearing or stressful. All incarnations of the popular word game have always struck this balance, and Scrabble Rack Attack is no different.
More Than Just A Silly Name
Don't let the game's ridiculous name fool you into thinking that the game shouldn't be taken seriously! It's very fun and will really push your spelling prowess to its very limits!
Scrabble Rack Attack is a one player game. In each round, you're given seven letters just like a normal game. You're also presented with a game board that has several slots, each representing a word that can be constructed with your letters. They'll be divided into categories based on how many letters the words contain. Your goal is to create as many of the words as you can before the timer runs out.
This mode is much more difficult than the standard method of playing, but I mean that in the best way possible. It presents you with a real challenge that you will walk away from with a better vocabulary. Speaking of vocabulary, highlighting any word on the screen will instantly bring up its definition. It really is a tremendous learning tool.
The hint system that the game offers is fantastic. Clicking the button once will give you a very vague, very simply hint that will only tell you the first letter of a word. Clicking it again will tell you the letter that comes next, as well as the remaining letters, albeit in a scrambled order. The way the hints progress is really neat and keeps them from being too helpful all at once.
In order to beat the round, you must fill the Scrabble meter to a certain height. You fill the meter a little with each word you make.
Variations in Play
One Rack mode is basically just one round of play. It's perfect if you don't have a lot of time and want to play a complete game. Rounds mode lets you play round after round in an ongoing game. In order to reach the next round, you have to fill the Scrabble meter to the appropriate spot. Extreme is for serious spelling enthusiasts only. It plays like the other modes, except that for each wrong word you get, you'll lose a slot, keeping you from getting those points.
Knowledge is Power!
Scrabble Rack Attack is another fine game in the popular series. If you're someone who usually plays games alone, I can't think of a better game for you to check out.
