Take Me Back To The 80s

I was just starting elementary school when the 80's ended, so my time in the decade was definitely limited. On the other hand, a person's youth is arguably their most impressionable time, so you better believe that I have some 1980's pop culture hardwired into my brain. Playing through the questions located in this product, I'll be honest and tell you that I didn't do so well. Some things I recongnized but didn't know much about and some things just didn't strike a chord at all. That being said, it definitely took me for a nostalgia-laden trip down memory lane.

For presentation, The 80's Game gets an astounding A. It features bright, colorful visuals, catchy tunes that couldn't come from anywhere but the eighties, and a charismatic (and good-looking) host in the form of Marth Quinn. Martha's voice accompanies still photos of herself that, while not video, more or less achieve the desired effect.

Trivia Time

The 80's Game actually has quite a bit of options for a trivia game, which is something that really makes the game stand out. I'll give you a quick rundown of how everything works in the normal game mode.

You'll get three categories to choose from for each question. The catergories will range from easy to hard and each will display the amount of points that are at stake. Each category is also worth a set amount of stars as well. These stars fill up your 80's power meter. Fill the meter up, and you'll go to the next level, which means that you'll get more questions and each one will be worth more.

When you get asked the question, you can choose either I Know It, or I'll Guess It. If you choose I Know It, you can get more points, but you'll only have one shot. If you choose to guess it, you can guess until all of the answers or gone, but each subsequent guess will be worth less.

The game is split up into four different modes: free play, challenges, episodes, and versus.

Free play is the fastest was to play a game and try to get a high score up on the board. The normal rules apply.

In challenge mode, you choose either TV, Movies, Music, Sports, or Wild Card and then you only answer questions in that category.

In episodes, you get a number of games to choose from such as 80's Gals or Famous Faces. The questions will all revolve around that topic.

Versus is pretty self explanatory; you can go one-on-one with one of your friends, sharing the same computer.

A Fantastic Trip

Like I stated earlier, my knowledge of the 80's is quite limited, but that didn't stop me from having an absolute blast with The 80's Game. I'm a sucker for trivia games and this is among the best I've ever played. It's amazing how much variety they included in a premise that revolves soley around answering questions. There is a nice emphasis on score here; the game keeps track of several of your top records and even has a cleverly-written ranking system.

If you're in anyway a fan of the decade or you just want to experience some serious nostalgia, I wholeheartedly recommend giving The 80's Game a try! It's totally radical!
