A Cunning Twist on an Age Old Game
Veterans of the Mah Jong Solitaire genre are always on the lookout for a fresh take on the popular formula. Your prayers have been answered in the form of WordJong To Go. Instead of counting bamboos and deciphering the winds, you link exposed letter tiles together to form words. In this way, this offering combines the very best puzzle elements of classic Mahjong with the intricate strategies of a word-forming game.
You are presented with a field of tiles (there are countless layouts to choose from) much like Mahjong Solitaire, except each tile has a letter on it. The "available" tiles are slightly illuminated. Form longer words from these letters to rack up more points. Completely clear the playing area to move on to the next stage.
Three Fun Ways to Play
In some ways, this title can be thought of three games rather than one: each mode presents a slightly different challenge, providing you with countless hours of enjoyment. The three game modes are described below.
Link: The World is Connected
Use the available tiles to form a word, reusing the last letter from the previous word spelled as the first letter of the ensuing word. Each time you manage to do this, the turtle at the top of screen swims a certain distance. If he swims over the bonus icons, you either receive a wild tile (which can later be used in place of any letter) or -- if you've already filled your cache of wild tiles -- extra points in the form of gold rings. In most stages, you are allowed to accumulate as many as three wild tiles at any given time.
When you are in the process of forming a word -- take your time; there is no clock -- you will see a preview of how far the turtle will swim given the length of the current word. The longer the word, the longer he will swim and the more points you will receive.
Classic: Clear the Field
Look into the future and have your fortune told. In Classic mode, you must form words from the available tiles, removing them as you go along (you do not overlap with the previous word as you do in Link Mode). Use the jade-colored tiles for extra points. Clear the entire field to move on to the next puzzle. Complete four puzzles to receive your fortune.
To collect bonus points and wild tiles, you must form words of greater and greater length. You can see the currently required length at the bottom of the screen. Be mystified by the relaxing music, warmed by the wonderfully rendered graphics, and astonished by the accuracy of your fortune.
Versus: Challenge the Opposition
Scrabble fans will likely enjoy this game mode the most. Face off against opponents of increasing difficulty in this turn-based variation. Unlike the other modes where tiles become available as you reveal them (even during the formation of a word), you can only use the immediately available letters in Versus mode. The player with the most points at the end of three rounds is the victor. Matches will end sooner if the point differential exceeds 30 points.
